We are making our own residential building in Amsterdam. A place for and by artists and creatives.

It is often said that it is impossible to find affordable housing for artists and makers in Amsterdam these days.
We believe it is possible and we have a great opportunity now.
We want to create a community where people with different backgrounds, interests and philosophies live in harmony under one roof - where we can support each other and help each other grow.
We envision a building with spaces not only to live, but also to work, share knowledge, and showcase our creativity to the world. A community that extends beyond its walls, connecting not only the people who live there, but the entire neighbourhood.
WHERE
Next to Lelylaan station, the municipality of Amsterdam is making land available for this unique initiative. This will create space for a green garden, studios, communal areas and eighty homes.
A unique opportunity for affordable living in Amsterdam, with the Sloterplas within walking distance, the city centre within cycling distance and excellent connections via Lelylaan station and the ring road.
COLLECTIVE
We will make this dream come true together. As future residents we form the association *Canvas Collectief*.
Together we participate in the municipal selection procedures to be allocated the land.
DESIGN
After allocation, we start the design process under the guidance of an architect and construction experts. Your wishes and ideas are included in the design. With a definitive and approved plan, we look for a contractor to realize our building.
To organize this process, we need active members with different knowledge and skills.
INVESTERING
The financing is largely arranged through loans from banks and the municipality, provided to the association. We use this money for the purchase of the land and the construction.
As a member and resident, you rent your home from the association. The monthly rental income – varying from approximately €1,000 to €1,200 – is used to repay the loans. Ultimately, the building is fully owned by the association and will remain so forever. This ensures that affordable rental homes for artists and creatives in Amsterdam are preserved, now and in the future.

Join now! As an association, we will participate in the municipal selection procedure in January 2025. The land allocation will follow in the summer of 2025, after which we will start the design process. This takes time, because we want to design a beautiful, sustainable building that offers both communal living and individual homes.
Construction will start in 2027, after obtaining the building permit. And in 2029? Then we will celebrate our first house party together in our new home!
